The "Get Connected" series is a six week small group study curriculum that our church is currently engaged in. It is accompanied by the devotionals and sermon topics to help support our thinking about our church direction.
Scripture: Matthew 8:18-19
. . . when Jesus saw great multitudes about Him, He gave a command to depart to the other side, and a certain Scribe came and said to Him, ‘Teacher, I will follow You wherever you go.’
The Scribe, a Scholar, decided to follow Jesus wherever. Was it His teaching (he called Him Teacher), his miracles, his charismatic personality, or the whole person called Jesus that attracted this man? Whatever, he decided to follow Jesus.
I decided to follow Jesus some 58 years ago, and it has been an exciting journey. It began when I acknowledged my sin and that I needed a Savior and believed that Jesus Christ died on a cross to make atonement for my sins. Next, after reading Romans 10:9-10, I saw that I needed to confess Christ as Lord and Savior. To confess means to declare openly, by speaking out freely, in deep conviction, that is by faith I have been saved (Ephesians 2:8-9). Claiming allegiance to Christ and His Way I have the indwelling Holy Spirit to help me in my walk.
The Christian life is an exciting adventure as we live day by day in the powers of the Holy Spirit. God has many wonderful things in store for us as we walk in obedience to His Word and live for His glory. The adventure starts when we decide to follow Jesus . . . wherever!
Prayer thought: “Lord, grant me the wisdom to follow you in complete trust.” Amen
