The "Get Connected" series is a six week small group study curriculum that our church is currently engaged in. It is accompanied by the devotionals and sermon topics to help support our thinking about our church direction.
During this week, we are focused on worship, both in our individual and corporate lives. Any expression of love for God is an act of worship. Enjoy Barbara Brace's story which follows:
Scripture: Deuteronomy 6:4-5
Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength."
(You might also read Mark 12:28-31 or Matthew 22:34-40.)
The ten of us were sitting at the dining room table, and my sister asked her 3 year old grandson, Killian, to say grace. He dutifully told us to hold hands and close our eyes. Five seconds later, he said loudly, “Dear God…..We love you!” and then stopped. After a few silent seconds, I peeked at him. Eyes squeezed closed, chin tilted to the ceiling, lips curled into a private smile, he said nothing else. I, and probably at least a few of the other peekers, quickly closed our eyes again. For the next few moments, “Dear God, we love you” echoed in my head. When Killian called out “Amen!” I felt that it was a perfect grace, a perfect invitation to connect my heart to God’s heart. “Dear God, we love you” says it all.
